SRR 051 Push Pull HELLO SOLDIER!!! CD
This is the re-issue of Push-Pull’s debut album, HELLO SOLDIER!!!. Back in 2005, the guys put it out themselves in a small run of hand-made CDs. Having heard and loved this record for such a long time, we at Sick Room Records have decided to finally give it a wider release. The three Mikes (Bridavsky, Notaro, Hoggatt) all live and play in the backwoods of southern Indiana. In all honesty, I find it quite difficult to find another band to compare them to. It’s just good, honest, smart rock music; pop infused with a little crunch and a lot of love. If I had to reference them to someone else, maybe I would say The Minutemen. Not necessarily as far as the songs, but more in terms of their lack of pretense, their humility, and their great attitude towards life and music.
Mike Bridavsky sums it up thusly, in better words than I can summon at the moment:
I guess our whole thing is that we just write music that we find clever, interesting and stimulating. It's something we'd actually want to (and do) listen to. We enjoy incorporating pop elements into our music, but just enough so that it's not overkill. Most of our lyrics are cryptic and include secrets, hints and references to things that may very well be undetectable by the most listeners. For example, we purposefully steal lyrics and riffs from classic and/or unknown bands/songs because we think it's funny and clever, and we consider it more like a reference or commentary. So basically we just do what we think is brilliant and awesome, and realize (and don't care) that most people probably don't agree. Most importantly each of us is an equal contributor to our music. That is why it comes out the way it does, as an accurate representation of the three of us.
I once heard someone joke around and say that authenticity is the new irony. If that’s true, then why not pick up HELLO SOLDIER!!!, because it has plenty of both…
