Sick Room Records, LTD. is pleased to present, as part of our ongoing live series, this double CD featuring Dilute and Hella, two innovative and unique bands, who have both been held in high esteem for their dynamic and intense live performances.
Dilute, from Oakland, CA, are consistently regarded as one of the bay area's best-kept secrets when it comes to underground music. This four-piece outfit produces wonderful soundscapes that literally resonate with soul fire. Drummer Jay Pellici and bassist Craig Colla provide the bed onto which a tapestry of guitar lines, woven by Marty Anderson and Ian Pellici, is laid, punctuated at times by Marty's sparse, childlike vocals. Melodies bubble and simmer. As different parts crescendo, wane, and crash into each other, the current they create is almost primordial, rolling along like the ageless Pacific tides. These songs were captured live at San Francisco's Bottom Of The Hill.
Originating from Nevada City, CA and now residing in Sacramento, Hella have blown away countless jaded hipsters with their intricate, winding spazz-core compositions. Zach Hill is a veritable animal on the drum kit, playing w/ a passion and intensity rarely matched, and creating a whirlwind of tortuous noise that must be seen to be believed. Spencer Seim's guitar work is equally impressive, as he bursts forth with a seemingly endless supply of pulsating, jittery parts that intertwine perfectly, bringing a sense of balance to the whole experience. These two men are so psychically tuned to one another that at times their instruments actually seem to reverse roles, the drums interjecting melody and the guitar providing the rhythmic backbone. The five songs here, recorded live to 4-track at Sacramento's Capitol Garage, speak for themselves as a testament to this band's great prowess.
