I have a tremendous fear of heights. But recently, It just dawned on me that this phobia has little if anything to do with the cliff, or the building or wherever I may be standing in that situation. Instead, the fear arises from this vicious circle of thought erupting within my own mind. What happens if I inch my toes a little father out? What happens if I lean forward a little more, if I test my equilibrium, take that next step? And then alternatively, what is holding me back? What keeps these two feet on the ground? Could it be that, in a fraction of a second, my mind may snap and the next thing I know, I will be plunging into oblivion? This uneasiness is a manifestation of a push-pull between the deepest, most primeval desires, a precarious, exhilarating balance, physically, mentally and emotionally.
In a similar way, Form Of Rocket have set up their psychological gauntlet and ask us to take a spin. Their music creeps up on you from the darkest corners of your mind. Rhythmically, lyrically, expressively, it becomes an enticing tangle of sublimated passions, forbidden fruits gone rotten on the vine. It slices through that thin veneer of normalcy that coats everyday life, and exposes us to a world full of rage, fury, and lust that mom and dad may not want you to see.
So after six years of tumultuous line up changes, relentless touring, blossoming, transforming, faltering, cocooning and reemerging, Form Of Rocket have finally arrived here in this moment with Men, their third record, presented by Sick Room. Scarred but not scared, bruised but not beaten down, they are ready to take you to the edge.
